Upland Rotary Club Projects Over the Years

• Just Read: Distributed books to children K-3 (5,000 books per year to 1,200 kids.)
• Wheelchair Foundation: Donated funds for 50 wheelchairs which were distributed in Hermosillo Mexico.
• Support our Troops: Sent personal supply packages to military on active duty overseas.
• WAPIs: Made 75 + water purification indicators for distribution in Nigeria
• Interact: Sponsored 3 youth service clubs at Upland HS, Western Christian HS, and Hillside HS.
• Youth Protection Training: Trained and certified club members to participate in youth activities.
• RYLA: Sent high school juniors to a 3 day youth leadership training camp.
• TLC: Sent 8^th graders to a 3 day youth leadership training camp.
• Interact Symposium: Sent youth leaders of our Interact clubs to a 3 day training program.
• Shopping for Kids: Took children from low income families Christmas shopping.
• 4-Way Speech Contest: Held speech contest for high school students.
• Dan Stover Music Contests: Participated in the district’s instrumental music contest for high school seniors.
• Group Study Exchange: Sponsored GSE participant, Oscar Quiroz, to Chile.
• Ambassadorial Scholars: Sponsored many scholars for 1 year graduate study abroad.
• Rotarians-at-Work Day: Participated in community service projects on the last Saturday in April.
• SuperBuild: Participated in the building of homes in Mexico.
• Mini Grants: Provided thousands of dollars to community non-profit organizations.
• Kenya Water Project: Spearheaded an $125,000+ project in conjunctions with other Rotary clubs and the Upland First Presbyterian Church.
• Literacy for All: Applied for a matching grant for literacy materials in South Africa.
• Polio Plus: Raised $125,000 for Rotary’s world-wide polio eradication program.
• Materials for the Deaf: Purchased materials for the deaf in Honduras.
• Micro Credit Banking: Started a micro credit bank in Ecuador.
• Polio Immunization Day: Two members participated in immunizing children in India.
• Rotaplast: Contributed to Rotaplast to fund clef lip and palette surgeries in Guatemala, and one member participated in a Rotaplast mission to Peru
• Piyali Learning Center: Contributed to scholarships for girls in the Piyali Learning Center in Calcutta, India.
• Rose Parade Float: Rotarians, family members and Interactors participated in decorating the Rotary Rose Parade Float. One member was selected to ride on the float.
• Shelter Boxes: We have funded “Shelter Boxes” for those whose homes have been devastated by natural disasters.
• School for the Deaf: We have helped fund the development of a school for the deaf in Las Vegas through Kathy Buckley.
• Project Peanut Butter: We have provided needed nutritional and medical support to children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa.
• Protect our Children Signs: We installed 35 signs warning motorists to drive safely in school zone areas
